For more than 2,500 years, the guzheng — one of China's oldest traditional instruments — has enchanted the imperial courts of ancient China and narrated countless poems and stories. Today, Luxi is thrilled to share the beauty of this unique instrument with a wide audience across Switzerland and Europe, on various stages, from private settings to public theatres.
Born in Beijing, Luxi started playing the guzheng at the age of four. She was fully immersed in the classical court repertoire in her childhood.
After she moved to Paris with her family at the age of 12, she learned piano and discovered various western musical styles, from classical to modern jazz, soul to hip-hop. She has then played with musicians of different genres and now creates her own arrangements in various music collaborations.
Her performances are purely sound journeys that carry guests toward a more poetic place, suspended in time. Listeners describe an atmosphere of colorful landscapes and enchantment that lingers long after the final note.
For reasons close to her heart, she also shares the guzheng with seniors in care homes, bringing them gentleness and a poetic pause through music. She also leads musical awakening workshops for children: having benefited from the power of music herself from early childhood, she now wishes to pass this cultural heritage on to them.
Her dream is to share the guzheng — an instrument still largely unknown in the West — with as many people as possible across Europe, letting more listeners discover the unique sounds of this instrument, showcasing the beauty of an art long regarded as a symbol of refinement.
The guzheng is an ancient Chinese plucked zither with 21 strings and a history of more than 2,500 years. Its sound moves from delicate and crystalline to powerful and majestic, evoking the flowing sound of a cascade, the gentle breath of the wind and the mighty heights of the mountains. Heir to an age-old tradition, it continues today to inspire and to dialogue with contemporary music.
From gentle melodies to vibrant rhythms, the guzheng paints various landscapes of sounds — a true musical and cinematic journey.
Flowing melodies that create a soothing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and letting the mind drift. In care homes, it brings seniors comfort and serenity.
In musical awakening workshops, children explore sound with curiosity and joy, developing fine motor coordination and focus capability.
An artful live performance for lounges and receptions — a delightful interlude, a poetic escape where the sound of the guzheng carries guests into an enchanted world.
